Nature’s Way Program

An 8-week nature-based therapy group for children, ages 11-14, who want to transform their relationship with anxiety.
Thursdays (3:15pm - 5:15pm) Spring Program: April 26 - June 15th
Government House Gardens **students from Central Middle School will be met at the school by facilitators to walk to the gardens

** This program is made possible by a partnership with Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre, and is gratefully receiving funding from the BC Recreation and Parks Association.

Our winter program is now FULL, but you can register ahead for our spring program that starts on April 26th!!

Through a combination of play, experiential learning, and mindfulness in nature, this group focuses on enhancing children’s strengths and resources to take charge of anxiety and redefine its impact on their life.

Each week the youth will have the opportunity for positive and fun group experiences, and will develop and deepen their connection with the natural world through games, sensory awareness activities, and solo time amongst the Garry Oak meadow.  Through Narrative and Cognitive-Behavioural approaches, we aim to help the youth understand how worry functions in their mind/bodies, and to explore various strategies for coping with anxiety when it shows up.

The group will be facilitated by Katy Rose, Registered Clinical Counsellor, and supported by 2 fantastic practicum students. We aim to always have a minimum ratio of 1:5 on site (maximum group size is 10 participants).

** This program takes place entirely outdoors, rain or shine!  The kids are expected to show up with appropriate clothing for our West Coast weather. We will only cancel in the case of extreme wind/rain.  Also, parents/guardians are expected to attend the second half of the final program day on March 15th.
